The plasterer from our latest project did an amazing job with the lightly skip-troweled plaster walls (and had an awesome collapsable red table to boot!)

We’ve moved! We still have some unpacking to do, but we kicked off 2011 with a move to a new studio in Detroit’s Elevator Building. That a small office like us receives media attention for a move across town seems strange, but strange is this town’s middle name. Read more on our move at ModelD, as well their piece on the Elevator Building. It’s nice to know we’re always welcome to say hello at our old building.

While working with an image file of one of our projects, it freaked out. And we thought the colors were already intense!

A message from a concerned citizen looking to make the streets of Detroit a little less dangerous. One of the many calls we receive from people looking DTW or DPW.

(Mr. Brown never left a number.)

M1/DTW has worked with 6 salon for many years, designing nearly everything in their two salons. We’ve never made a video (well okay, a skateboarding documentary in high school that won a local cable televison award), so when they asked if we could, we said “absolutely.” (slow-motion alert: 00:52 and 10:12).

United is a speculative urban renewal proposal for a decommissioned skybridge linking two of Detroit’s most significant skyscrapers.

This is why the builder shouldn’t be the designer. —overheard during the move-in (Apparently they didn’t get the memo that the designer was the builder.)
